In the middle of a assembly and I begin to wonder what K I have in my GTS. It had a big block K (340 car) which went bye bye (I want get into that right now ) and bought a SB K. The question is, is there a difference in a 340 and a 318 K. Early style not a spool style. I know there is a diffence in mounting brackets and I have the correct 340 ones on a 360. As usual I have stopped working to find this out. Quick help apreciated.

Thanks in advance, Kevin

No no difference . are you sure it's a small block and not a /6 ? Are you having an issue or just want to make sure ?

Currently no issue, making sure before I pull the K and mount the engine. The holes in the k mounts look inline and on the engine the driver's side appears back a little. I quess I'm not sure its a SB but doesn't the driver's perch on a /6 stick up at an awkward angle? Got picture of either handy?

Thanks by the way!

here is a pic of a sb v-8 on a /6 k frame

you can use the pass side sb truck engine bracket and an early style driver side car engine bracket

old hot rod trick when you have a /6 k frame

just in case you find its a /6 k frame and not a sb k frame

this will work so you dont have to locate another k frame

K out, engine & tranny mounted, back in the engine bay. The K is slightly twisted to the engine as I suspected it would be. When the engine & tranny are running straight in the engine compartment and tunnel the driver's side is probably 3 inches behind the holes when the passenger's side is even. Any thoughts? I will respond back at the airport.

I believe so they are both behind the lugs, if the driver's were in front it would be pretty close but the machining of the block doesn't allow for a front mount, so I figured it was behind. I could modify the bracket but haven't chosen to yet. I figured I would ask first. I was out of time anyway for the day so I was at a stopping point. Thanks for the help though.

In case I wasn't clear it is a 360 with 340 mounts and the above K with a 833 behind it.

I know useing the 318 bracket on a 360 you have to use some washers to take up some space with the block lugs.

The holes in the A body engine mount brackets should orient the biscuit to the front of the bracket. If the holes are near the rear of bracket, they are B/E body brackets.

On the left is the A body driver side 340/360 mount

The 340 mounts require no washers or spacers of any kind on a production 360 block. 360 block drivers side mount ear spacing is the same as a 340.

Anybody know if I just need a driver's side or is the passenger's side different as well? Isn't the passenger's the same as a 318 A body?
