I did some work on a trans in my freinds truck and was wondering if the 98 needed the atf+3 or atf+4?the dipstick said atf+ with mopar number.

I think Mopar #7176 is ATF +3. It has friction modifiers to prevent lockup clutch shudder.
You could use the newer ATF +4, I think it is semi-synthetic? (but more expensive.)

I don't think that the +3 is available anymore pretty sure +4 is the preferred fluid , like it or not .
