trying to put my 440 together and i was wondering,i know my 383 distributor is too short but can i get a shaft from a 440 and just change shafts.also is the motor mount location the same on a 383 as a 440.any help would be greatly aprieciated as there are very few mopar people around here

You're good on the block. Haven't checked shafts side by side but I'd say the odds are very high they're the same exc for the length & I've ground down the shaft/added the notch on a good 440 dist to fit my 451 (B) which let me get a perfect fit w no slop. On yours on the bottom add some 1/2" ID flat washers above the collar/roll pin to get the end play to near zero/clean/lube it inside & if you have your initial finalized it'd let you set the slot length while you are in there and toss the heavy spring w the long loop on one end but you'll still b in/out of there several times (at least) to get it spot on. Depending on the distributor , yes you can change the shaft from the 383 to the 440 , I have even converted the old chrysler style electronic ... the style before the current units with the adjustable mechanical advance now being sold , from electronic to single point .
