Hello everyone. New to the forum here and have a question concerning a disc brake conversion on my 69 Roadrunner. I have read the Mopar Action article that tells how to do the swap using A-body spindles and other newer parts. I would like to use this same setup on my car but in the article it talks about sway-bar to caliper interference on pre 1970 B-body cars with the link-type sway-bar setup. Another article I found said that the late model spindle attaches the caliper to the rear of the rotor so there will be no interference problems with the sway-bar. Has anyone ever tried this conversion on a 68-69 b-body and will it mean having to change the sway-bar to make this setup work or can I leave my factory sway-bar and not have to worry about anything hitting? I have also thought about using aftermarket disc brake kits but I was wanting to keep the swap as simple and cheap as possible. Thanks for any help.

I bought the SSBC aka Stainless Steel Brake System for my 69 roadrunner and so far it's been working great! Mine are just the standard single piston calipers and stop the car very well.

Factory parts work just fine. Use the late model calipers designed to be rear hung and then buy an aftermarket brake hose.

Use F-body or M-body spindles. Dirt cheap and very easy to get

Ok thanks. That got me clear about the caliper position. Which caliper setup is best to use? The Mopar Action article suggests using the pin type (floating) caliper but I read in another article that the sliding caliper is a lot better. I guess I could go use either type as long as I had the correct caliper barckets. Does anyone have any preference over the other as far as durability and performance is concerned?

To me the pin type is better but those were only used sporadically , the slider is more common.

I'm not aware of a rear hung pin type caliper so I always recommend the slider units from the later FMJ cars. Those are the only calipers that I know of which are designed to be rear hung with a rear mounted brake hose. There are no factory hoses which work properly so you just have to buy aftermarket brake hoses by description. Something like a 15 inch hose with a banjo fitting on the caliper side and a #3 AN on the frame side will work with a flare to AN adapter at the frame.

First off, follow the article's recommendation for spindles and ignore all the other "these'll work" comments. Its a known fact that anything but the recommended spindles negatively affect the bumpsteer (dispite all the controversy this comment will generate AGAIN !!!).

Second, go with the 10.87" setup. Its way more common and the added stopping power of the 11.75" is negligible, not to mention they weigh more.

Pin or slider?? Slider is definately more common and will work fine.

Dr. Diff (a regular on here) sells the hoses to rear-mount the calipers.

Buy used spindles and caliper brackets and buy everything else new. Everything you need is cheap enough that its not worth cleaning and rebuilding used stuff.

You make it sound like these spindles are growing on trees

I used the 11.75 Cordoba with Volare hoses on my 69 Bee- worked just fine.

For those of you that have did this conversion what did you do as far as the proportioning valve. Did you leave the factory drum brake proportioning valve and add an adjustable proportioner to the line or put in a disc brake proportioner from a newer model car? I would like to do this setup without having to make up new lines and use my existing ones.

A-bodies ... trees ... same difference !! Only way they'd be MORE readily available is if they were coming off a chebby!! There's usually a set to be had on here in the swap forums (there is right now). And they're available at just about every swapmeet (bring measurements so you can tell they're the right A-body one's).

My car had discs but I'm still adding an aftermarket prop valve.
