the frozen wastes...

My 72 Newport Royal got vandalized again today... this time the [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] destroyed the entire passenger front door... presumably trying to open it. Handle, lock, sheetmetal... all utterly mangled, likely with an axe or claw hammer.

I need an estimate on all this and have to find another door. I realize these cars can be had for free practically once the powertrains are pulled, but i just need a door.

What years and models interchange? I want to think New Yorkers will, and likely 69-73...??? But it has to look the same, work the same, accept the same parts (lock, interior), and cause me ZERO grief swapping it.

I'm not really looking for one yet, just need to know what to look for. At the rate these cars are destroyed for their engines, i shouldn't have to pay a dime for one. Heh heh... and finding one with nice patina/faded original B5 paint would be nice too...

I cant remember if 72 was the change year.I know 73 was totally different than say 70.The door from any Chrysler 4 dr of the same style will fit.The trim might be different. If you know someone at a junk yard look in their Hollinder book for interchanges.Rocky

Looking at internet pictures at least, they all seem to share the same lines/doors from 70 to 73. 73 had a different front end, but the rears look the same. My car is a post car however... so i need a post door. Not sure if thats gonna be harder or easier to find...

Seems backwards... but from what i've seen around it would probably be easier to find a 70 Cuda door than a 70-3 NP front door with a post... All the parts cars get crushed or demo'd. I cant remember the last time i saw a 4-dr being kept around for parts. It'd be cheaper to buy a parts car guaranteed... but i dont have the room.

I'm trying to remember from when I had my '71 Newport from 10 yrs ago, I *think* '73 doors are when they started the crash beam. I had a post car too, and, back then, I found post cars more often then not.

For all that effort to rip apart sheet metal (and thick sheet metal at that), you'd think they would have just smashed the window.

We are not talking intelligent beings here. The fact that the guy knows i'll know who did it, knows i have a key to his house, should tell you something. I'd probably prefer the buggered door though... i know how long these things can take to resolve, and i live in the rainiest place on Earth.

I wish i had a local source for a door, and a price for all THREE locks and the locksmith (cause i'm not lifting a finger here)... There might be a whole room full ov CHEAP electronics for sale pretty quickly around here....

72-73 should be the same. 69-71 have a different body line at the top if I remember right. A New Yorker door will work as long as it's the same body style, but will have some extra trim on the bottom.
