Hello,

I have finally got my 440 Dart Sport on the road. I have been asking questions about it / working on it for about five years

Here are the basic specs:

75 440, Holley SD intake, Schumacher Headers, 3" exhaust and a MP .450-.455 cam. Engine is stock as far as I know otherwise.

Car has 3.55's and is a driver with a couple of strip passes a year.

I am running my "loaner" Eddy 600 on the car. It is the carb that always works etc. I think most car guys have one.

About how much HP am I giving up by running this carb compared to a 3310-750 or my Thermoquad? Put another way, what should I gain by running something else larger? I know 440's are CFM hogs

It runs well for the most part, and the car is pretty snappy, but I know I am leaving alot on the table.

Thank you, ROB

If I had to guess I would say 25hp could be had by switching to a larger carb.A thermoquad would be great on that motor.

Because you are running such a small cam the hp won't suffer as much as with a larger cam.

You would notice a seat of the pants difference for sure. From 3500/4000 rpm and up it would be a different animal.

TQ would be nice, a nice old school 625AVS might also work well.

Torque will improve with a "sharp-tuned" TQ, especially in the midrange. Might pick up a few mpg's on the open road (highway) as a plus. Sounds like a "fun" streeter/cruiser!!

A TQ would likely work well. I like Holleys, so I'd go with a 3310 Holley 750 V.S.

I will say that it is pretty "snappy" as it sits. For a guy who has only driven a few 5.0's and a lightly modified SBM here and there, it is quite eye opening. You go from working to get the tires to break loose to the opposite.

I drove it about 12 miles the other day and it had a small tranny leak so I pulled it and replaced the seal.

It is my intention to drive this thing a few times a week. I do work about 35 miles round trip away, so I'd like some type of MPG.

It is definately a smiles per mile now. I was sitting on the couch with a sinister smile laughing under my breath and my wife asks me what was wrong

440 smile honey, 440 smile

Thank you for the ideas. I hope to get my Thermoquad on there first, after I get everything going.

I agree a TQ is perfect for your setup. Second choice would be an 800 AVS. Third choice would be a 3310 Holley.

For MPG the TQ is on top, otherwise it's the 750. It really depends on what you are willing to sacrifice.

I'm running the Eddy 1412, 800CFM on my 440, 10.25:1 with the MP 509 cam, runs good.

I am going to dig through my Thermoquads this week at some point and get the numbers. They are all Smog style, with one being a bit earlier.

Today we finish the transmission install, and tomorrow we ride. I am hoping to drive it to work later this week,

It is important for the kids to see the fruits of the efforts. I am a HS shop teacher. They all really like the old car, but don't really have a frame of reference for it. We grew up seeing these things But to them, they largely equate it with the Dukes of Hazzard or something. One asked if I was going to weld up the doors.

I wish my Dart Sport was a 68-70 Charger!

More news later.

eddy 600 makes a good stock 318 carb. I'd go with the 3310 holley rebuild it with a new 6.5 power valve and 72 jets front. make sure the secondaries is sealed and working probably like a little lighter spring than stock!

Have demonsizzler set you up one.Although a stock calibration will likely work fine as mild as your setup is.

i have ran eddy 600 on a .484 440,and she ran great.13.40's w/ A/C heavy car] then a eddy 750,ran 12.90's all day=heavy car,but the 600 was best for the street. a 3310 would make better power, and is easier to adjust. i would not run a tq,cuz a good one is hard to find, and tuning is worse since the strip kits[jets/rods] are rare.off idle its hard to beat a small primary carb...have fun!

Take the car and the old lady to someplace with a "tri-color signal tree, two wide lanes and approx. 3/8" mile in length. Give her the drivers seat and
let her go at it. She'll eventually like the sport or respect the fact not to be mad at you!!
