I was just wondering what I have here? Its definitely an 8 3/4 rearend, but it has a 5.5" bolt pattern? (I have seen plenty of 4" and 4.5") But this is 5.5" bolt pattern. It measures 43.5" center to center on the spring perches, and overall 58 1/4" flange to flange. It also has what appears to be 12" O.D. drums? Im guessing some sort of truck rear? I have not taken it apart yet to see what gears it has, but it does have a 489 center section...Anyone know what I might have here? Thanks in advance.

Thank you guys, I went out to check the ratio and when one side turns clockwise I can see the other side turning the opposite direction. Also, turning the wheel one revolution, makes the driveshat spin around two times. So that means I have an open diff, either 3:91 or 4:10 (:11) ?? I was told on open diffs you double the driveshaft rotation to obtain the ratio. Does this sound correct? Thanks again in advance for anyone that can reply!

if the perches are on top of the tubes its most likely a 70/74 4x4 1/2 ton Dodge/Plymouth RC, TD,or pickup rearend....

I am truckless..

Yes, just checked, perches on top. 2" wide brake shoes, and inside of drum measures 11" across where shoes would ride. So I'm correct in saying 11" brakes? Appreciate all the help guys.... Just want to make sure what I have and decide what to do with it,

Except for the 5.5" bolt circle.

Why, what's wrong with the 5 1/2" bolt circle? That's correct for early 4x4

I had a 74 4X4 short box 318 stick with an 8 3/4 with a 3.55 sure grip in it a few years ago and it was the big bolt pattern. I was told it was called a heavy half ton with the larger bolt. It was all factory as I had the invoice.

416 stroker from Nick at Compu-flow. 11.14 in full street trim. Seems like a new best every time out.
11.06 open headers----so far!!

Ahhh the day isn't a waste after all. I just learned something. Did not know that about 4x4's.
