So I remember awhile ago that a couple people on this forum say that these type of new air filters suck up too much hot air under the hood. Obviously, OzHemi made a little compartment where he can suck in fresh cool air. I was just wondering what difference in performance wise will this give a car? Also, is it possible to have too much cool air?

Type of air filter:

Idk where my attachment is, but its the air filters usually on Gen III Hemis and Corvette engines.

What he mentions, that I made for the Torana...it has a air funnel that gets cooler air from behind the grill (I cut a hole through the core support for it)

You can sort of see where it is here..

Yeah, exactly! So does the engine pull out more power with the cool air you are getting from the air funnel?

I don't have a way to compare, since this is how I built the car from the begining with the LS1. I knew I wanted to do it from the onset basically, of getting cooler air into the engine...just didn't know for sure how I was going to do it until I actually made up the template for the box

I can watch the IAT with my handheld OBDII tool, and would be interesting I guess to compare to a car with just a 'normal' underhood air filter.

Anytime you can cool air into an engine, the better off you are. The cooler the air, the denser it is and the more fuel you can run. This will result in more power. I know that there is a temperature to horsepower gain, but dont remember what it was. Its like every 10* drop, you gain 1% horsepower. Maybe that wsa for turbo cars, but either way, you will gain power.

It's kind of hard when no one will reply to this thread

Do you think it gives you more power? I was thinking, if I ever get to doing a 6.1L swap if I could do a similar thing with my Dart but separate it into two different air filter boxes. This was the kind of air intake modified from a LS air intake:

Then I was thinking about making the two air funnels coming out of the inner light bezels instead of having lights there (hopefully that is legal). Of course it would be a tight squeeze and I would have to relocate the battery to the trunk. And hopefully the aftermarket radiator won't be too big. I was also thinking of a HEMI scoop as well. Here is the engine bay of my Dart:
