Is there a difference in how u-joints over the years fit up on the tranny yolk? Is there a difference in the dimension from groove to groove?

904 should have the 7260 U-joint. Not sure they ever made a 7290 yoke.

A 7290 yoke is available for the 904's thru the aftermarket, I don't think the factory ever made one unless it would be for a truck/van application, but I don't think they ever did.

Never saw one if they did. course 904's in trucks or vans were virtually a non existent thing around here

My son and I tried to assemble a front yoke tonight that he bought at Indy at the swap meet. It fits in the 904 but we cannot press the caps together far enough to get both clips in. I measured the space between the ears on the yoke and it is 1.125" It does not look damaged by looking or measuring. It just seems that there needs to be about another 1/16" between the ears. I have assembled plenty of u-joints and never had this problem so I am wondering if there was a change in that dimension for different years.

Make sure one of the bearings didn't fall out of place. All it takes is one loose one to make the cap dimension too big ---- been there, done that!

Yep, I've done that too before but no this time.

Well something went wrong because as far as I know thatis the only joint that came on them. I have seen them semi air lock making them bit of a job to squeeze down to get the clips on and taking a couple of good raps with a hammer to get them to seat. Too much grease in the cups will definitely stop the seating possess till some is taken out.
