car is a 70 b body big block. noticed the motor was leaning to the right (pas/side). pulled the left motor mount off and found that it is torn, have not looked at the right side yet. i did notice that the rubber part of the mount contacts the block, both right and left sides. is this normal? or is there suppose to be a gap between the rubber and the block? both the factory and the schumaker mounts hit the block.

No part of the rubber mount should be touching the block. It should be sandwitched between the metal mount-braket and the K-member. No fun to change with the motot in the car.

I am dealing with motormounts in a 1970 e-body with a 440, TTI's and Dynatech Mighty Mounts in it.

The stud on the motor mounts is slightly too long and was touching the block. This pushed the steel mount away from the block slightly, which raised the engine in the k-member mount saddles. The increased height was an issue with my Shaker hood. I didn't catch it on assembly....

I didn't want to remove the engine to change them, but I needed to put on a Milidon roadracing pan and fix some other stuff anyway. The pan wouldn't clear the scattershield/k-frame with it's long pick-up, so it had to come out anyway.

I almost have the engine out now and am addressing several other issues while it's out and stuffing it back in. I would put in fresh motor and transmission mounts and chain the motor down so it wouldn't happen again. If you put the chain links on the back side of the driver's side mount, you won't even see it. Good luck!

1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)
