Why even bother with paper gaskets? They really aren't necessary. The tin is reusable a couple of times at least.

so i'm just wanting the intake gaskets to mount between the tin and manifold, right? just though there may have been a second gasket, similiar to oil pan, windage tray

You don't need paper gaskets at all. You just need a little RTV on the corners

If your heads have been milled or block decked you'll need at least one set of paper. I had to use one paper set on the old set-up.

That depends on whether or not the intake has been milled to match.

most times not needed,I do use the VP that has the heat cross over blocked with the alum intake and carb to keep the heat soak down.

rtv in the corners and across the end rails lightly.

the good part is,it is reusable a couple of times for fast intake/carb swaps.

some times the gaskets can be to thick,so check with member 'topside", he sells some thinner gaskets sets that are cheap and good quality.

member "road hazzard" has a nice brand of gaskets that he makes as well, great non-stick gasket compound,IIRC

congrats on your new 6-pak set up!

you will need tires soon

IF you take your time with the VP and install the intake with care ... you will NEVER have to buy another VP ...ever again.

That is IF you "glue" the papers onto the VP ...and then "Pam" the intake man and head surface. It will seal great and come apart smoothly.

The engineers at Mopar and Felpro came-up with those "papers" for a reason.

Sorry Doc but the engineers at Mopar didn't have a thing to do with the paper gaskets. That was a felpro idea to make up for head height changes. I have bought a boatload of valley pans including felpro over the years that never came with paper gaskets.

That is not what I heard stumpy ..... it was due to alignment probs with the alum Eddy intake is the reason for the papers.

Doing the papers can be a PITA .... but it is worth-it.

....if that is not reality ... then why isn't there a VP and paper-kit for the B engine also ?

I can't answer that but as a line mecahnic for Mopar in the 60s and 70s I do know it wasn't a Chrysler deal.

I was never a line-mech ...what I know about that is from the guys at Highland Park and CTC.

And from what I know .. there were more std OEM alignment issues with the B-engine. The block deck-heights with the B-engine are famous for being way-off in left-field.

This subject gets beat to death

Doo a search , its been discussed a million times

However its funny how some say the paper gaskets are never needed

Really , that brand new Holley Street Dominator Intake that i installed about ten years ago almost cost me a motor - It was sucking oil so bad on the passenger side head intake ports because i failed to use the paper gaskets at all

However the Edelbrock Intakes that i installed didnt require the paper gaskets

If i was buying any intake , used , brand new , aluminum blah blah blah , i would let the intake dictate on whether i would bee using paper gaskets or not by test fitting , lining up the bolt holes etc.

Peace Scott
