I just can't handle the noise from the Flowmaster's any more. I spring for the 3 chambers and they're still to tinny. What's the best thing to run? It's a b body with 2 1/2 all the way back and a x pipe / headers. Of course I want quite and max performance. Any ideas??

The ultraflo welded case straight thru mufflers are really good.
Lots quieter with a deeper tone and not a lot of annoying high frequencies.

The dynomax vt (I think is what it's called) is also a nice sounding muffler. supposedly really quiet with light throttle and when opened up the valve opens and you hear 'em good.

Either should make you happy.

I prefer the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers.They flow extremely well foor a reverse flow type muffler.I think they give cfm ratings for them on their website.I have a set of the 3" large cores on my 440 equipped dually and love them.
I don't personally care for the Ultra flows,they are too similar to a glasspack in design and sound for me.
I used to like Flowmasters,but the older I get the less I like the noise in something I put any real mileage on.

yep thats what i got on the runner 440,they open up nice wot,but able to have a conversation with the wife when just cruising,providing she has sommething worth listening to ,last part was just a joke

It has a lot to do with engine combo, my 11:1 440 actually got louder with the super turbos versus the ultra flows.

Currently run Borla Pro XS.... a little quieter yet and straight through design.

My experience- I've got a 2 1/2" TTI setup(headers, x-pipe, mufflers, tailpipes) in my 73 Challenger 340. The mufflers are the Ultra-flo straight through welded ones, and they are LOUD. Almost obnoxious. Of course it also has that raspy, buzzy x-pipe sound as well. My motor is built though,

416 stroker
11.5 to 1 comp.
Big solid roller cam

This may have something to do with the noise level. The locals tell me I can be heard from pretty far away.....

I have dynomax ST on both of my cars, SB and BB. They are great, imo. Plenty quiet when cruisng and sound great when I put my foot into it. I have never heard a car with flowmasters on it that I liked.

My wife and I cruise many hours in our cars. They have been tested a lot. My complete exhaust is TTI, EVERYWHERE I go people complaint me about the sound of my cars, people love it. Thumbs up at almost every traffic light. Get the super turbos if you go with TTI, there is no better sounding exhaust.

The combo is street car: 440 with cnc stealth heads, 528 solid, 3000 stall, 3.55 gear. It runs in the 12's with 2.2 sixty foots and no traction at all. Should I dynamat it and keep the muffs?

Flows are just too loud for for any sound deadening to help out.

I run the Dnomax ST and they are good. I have 2.5 inchers and they said they flow 500 cfm each on the box.

I have 3" utraflow weldeds and love them. About 0 power loss from open headers! They take a couple days to quite down?? but for max flow and quiet you can't beat them.
My buddy changed to them from Hooker areo chambers on his 496 67 plymouth and loves them.

Da Beast (Russ) member hear put them on his 512 super bee and he loves them too!

I'd probably pick Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers if it were mine, and would look into some better tires

That said I have 3.5" ultraflow welded on mine, but you probably wouldn't want them for what you're doing

I bought the Dynomax Ultraflows (the stockish looking crimped end ones) after looking at the restriction/capacity of a bunch of choices. I haven't fired the car up yet, but everyone that is running them tells me that they are very quiet.
The noise level may depend on the build....as far as performance is concerned, all the Pure Stock guys are using them for a reason...

Thanks for the info. Car is a convertible so it's more of a fast cruiser. The one time I went to the track they tossed me for no roll bar. Sticky tires would be nice but would be tough on the body even with the frame tied.

I used the Welded Ultraflow #17513 on my 71 Roadrunner with a 383 engine. No drone, nice tone. Also see chart below and note that at 2200 RPMs the Flowmasters are pretty loud 92-93 decibels. Ron

What is also interesting about my chart(s) is the amount of air the mufflers can pass. One might argue mufflers do not work strictly with air but we saw a definite relationship in air flow/track performance (as do manufacturers when they look at exhaust back pressure versus power output).

I have the large (20" long case) Dynomax SuperTurbo mufflers and they do a decent job of reducing exhaust noise and did not seem to hurt performance.
I have the 3" in/out mufflers that came with my TTI exhaust kit on the 500" stroker (near 700 HP?). With the 3" size and big engine the exhaust is still fairly loud.
I also had the 2.5" versions on my 360 RV engine (330HP?) and they were fairly quiet till you got on it.
The Super turbo mufflers do as stated, pretty quiet without much if any performance change, but they don't have a really nice sound/tone in my opinion.
I have heard the Hooker Aerochamber mufflers on a friends car, and I really don't like how they sound either. I don't know any Magnaflow muffler cars for comparison, only my diesel truck with 5" exhaust
I have a chambered IMCO muffler on a 318 that sounds nice, but not much power flowing through it either?

Looking at that chart up a few posts I am shocked that so many of those mufflers are actually louder than the DYNOMAX Ultraflows.

Yep, look at the flowmasters; louder AND more restriction! Pretty easy to see why all the PSMCDR cars are using Utraflows.

I also see that the 17288 crimped muffler is quieter than the welded Ultraflow.

I love the S/T's, got them on my 528" Hemi with TTI headers and 2.5" exhaust with x pipe. I like quiet and low key, stealth mode. Cops don't look twice at my car, but when you get in it, as a friend described it eloquently, "It sounds like you have a tiger in a bag and you are beating its ass!"

No need to swear; the Dynomax's have less restriction therefore power WILL go up.
I just can't understand why anyone would go with the Flowmasters
