I'm redoing my 69 dart and I have it all blasted and was wondering who has used truck bed liner as an undercoat. I was wanting to paint the underside of this car but i'm going to drive it and was thinking the bed liner would give me sound and heat resistance and would also never chip or peel. Thanks

My current CJ-7 has a roll-on bedliner on the inside and underside of the body tub. Works great, very durable.

My previous CJ-7 had Rhino Liner. Also worked great, but cost alot more. However, it looked neater and cleaner than the roll-on. For a nice street/show car, I'd go with Rhino or Line-X. For someone like me, who beats the snot out of my CJ, the roll-on is plenty good.

Being from a warmer climate I used Hippo Liner.. I sprayed it myself using a Sata undercoating gun.. Looks pretty good IMO..

Do any of these come in colors or are you pretty much stuck with black? What about painting over them ... I'd like the finish and protection but I'd also like to have the stuff body color.

Epoxy primer first I assume ???

The spray-ons like Rhino and Line-x can be made is lots of colors. I've not seen colors in the do-it-yourself products, but I'm sure they're out there.

I checked with CoolCar undercoating about their product and here's the response (I have no business relationship with them):

"CoolCar does not need a top coat. It is tough and will stand up to the same protection as a bed liner but will also give you insulation from the heat given off by the exhaust system."

Thanks for the compliment Darren. U-POL Raptor Liner is color tintable. What I liked about it is that the texture is pretty nice and similar (not exact) to a factory undercoat when sprayed. However, it can be brushed on if you like. Mine was sprayed. I just took a quick snap shot under the trunk pan for you. You can see the texture is pretty "light". My car was coded for undercoat and had undercoat from one end to the other when I got it. I plan on driving it and I wanted something that looked good and was easy to maintain.

Well I've been in contact with a local LineX guy and with surface area calculations and pictures he quoted me between $400 and $500 to do the whole underside and wheel wells. seems a lot better then the other local LineX guy who quoted me $2000

Rhino Linings, of course I'm a dealer. masking and taping takes most of the time to do a spray on bedliner, if you can have it ready to just be sprayed, you might be able to save some money! Surface must be scuffed up and cleaned by a thinner or other product, so if you tell them all they have to do is spray it, you could get a better price!

Line-X has the best texture. If he can do it for $400-$500 you better jump on it like a duck on a june bug but I doubt that he can do it that cheap unless he puts it on there paper thin.Herculiner probably has the best do it yourself bedliner.I sprayed mine on with an undercoating gun.I think I did as good as job as Line-X lol.Save a few bucks and DIY.
