Ok in the last 6 months i inherited my dads 70 coronet .......the tranny is down some fluid what is a good fluid to use in a 727 nowadays??

I use ATF-4 but I've heard it doesn't matter, supposedly you can use Dexron if need be.

DROP the pan ... check the filter and see what is in the pan and REfill with some F-type ATF.

These trannies aren't too picky, I might limit the amount of Ford ATF that I used. Less clutch slip upon engagement but thats a two edged sword with an older condition unknown transmission. Hate for the first firm shift to be the last one before rebuild.
