we just bought our neice a car.We told her to check the oil but she must not of.It quit on her today and it sounds like the fuel pump isnt working. Its out of 0il.None on the dipstick .Would the computer shut it down without oil pressure?Trying to diagnose this from 2 hours away.

Fuel pumps on them are in the tank and pretty quiet. They do quit from time to time. I don't know if there's an oil PSI cutoff. Maybe someone should dump oil in the thing a quart at a time and see how low the oil level was.
My '96 Breeze 2.0L/stick has 220,000 miles on it, is on its 3rd fuel pump and uses about 1 quart of oil every 800 miles; no smoke, no leaks, but it does run through it a bit. Also makes the usual 2.0 piston-slap racket at startup. 40 MPG.

No there is no oil pressure shut off, it will run `till it blows up without oil.

You are not gonna fix this over the phone without knowing: spark?, fuel?, compression?, correct cam-crank timing?, blah blah blah.
Someone is going to have to get up close and personal with this one, especially if it really was run for any time with no oil pressure.

I once owned a cloud car (1998 Cirrus).

As I recall, fuel pump lasted about 100k miles / 8 years. If her Stratus is north of that on the clock, the fuel pump doesn't owe the world anything.

I don't think there's a low oil pressure cutoff, but she'll have to add oil regardless. Just do that now anyway.

Down to just a blue car now.
