Did all the pre 68 383s have the bolt holes drilled and tapped for the A body mount?

I ask because I have a 67 383 with the holes drilled and tapped for the driver side mount.

I also have a 68 and a 69 block and there is a boss there but not drilled and tapped.

Just curious if maybe I have an A body 67 383 block but I thought I read somewhere that early c bodies used this weird mount too...

Anyone shed some light on this?

Dan

67 C bodies used the mount that went off the front of the block so all 383 blocks would be drilled and tapped whether they were destined for a C body ... or A body ... or not ... the a body also had an ear on the drivers side machined off that all others would not .

No I don't, it's the rear ear that is all by itself , it would not be there if it were an A body engine .

Then maybe it is an a body engine because it looks exactly like this:

It is stamped C383 on the pad and has a 2 66 date code wouldnt that be a bit early for an A body 383?

Just curious gonna put this in my charger regardless but if someone needed it bad enough id help them out for sure.

Is that YOUR engine in that picture?

I don't know when the 67 A bodies started having big blocks so I can't answer.

As far as you helping some one, it depends if the premiumn you put on the parts you are flipping is cheaper than machining a block that has the nubs not machined. The rear ear doesn't need to be removed unless the car has power steering and even then it may only need a slight grinding.

The picture is exactly what my block looks like, however, that is not MY engine but I have the copy of it lol.

Im not tryin to make any loot or anything, matter of fact the engine is goin in my charger for now because it is a fresh motor with 30 over slugs and a small camshaft along with rebuilt 516 heads. I was only askin some questions.

If someone absolutely had to have it then they would have to give me another 383 that is a fresh motor to use in my charger.

I would just use it , the list of people that have to have that block and pay money on top of giving you a fresh engine is very short .

Gonna use it and if someone gimme a fresh motor in exchange for this fresh motor I wouldnt want a dime, especially if it helped them out with their mopar dude.

Anyway when I pull it out down the road I know it is possibly unique which is way cool.

The 383 Barracuda and Dart models started showing up in late March 1967. I wouldn't expect to see an original car to have a block with a casting date prior to Dec. 66 to Jan. 67.

What are you going to bolt the B-body Charger motor mount to?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Well guys thanks for all your time and help. Looks like Im a crackhead tho. The rear motor mount tab is there and has a bolt through it (motor mount bracket) duh. Dont know how I missed it.

But hey, atleast I dont have to worry about using a factory A body big block in my charger when someone could use it....its not one.
