I'm thinking about picking up an aftermarket automatic shifter and would like to know if anyone knows of any that will fit under/in a factory A-body console? I have been looking at various shifters and kind of like the looks of either the Hurst Pro Matic or B&M Quicksilver shifters in particular. Has anyone used either of these shifers with a factory console? If so, did you have to modify the console at all and if you did, how so?

Here's my solution (1970 slapstick with an A-body knob - the effective length of the upper arm on the down shaft needs to be shortened to 2-1/4" from 2-1/2):

Never done it myself but I have seen some nice ones. I say get your quick silver and make it work. It should pop up through the original slot and look pretty nice. If all else you could mount the one with a boot on top of your counsel but I do believe it will fit rather nicley inside. Like I said I have seen 'em and they look nice. Might not be a strict bolt in but it is doable. Not origanal so don't be affraid to modify or fabricate. Then you can show us all how it is done.

One more try. Some of you A-body guys must have done this.

I modified my console and put a Hurst Promatic V Ratchet shifter under it. Worked great and looked great,....was in 4 magazines this way. I always got cool comments from this setup.

I'm thinking of selling the Console (and carpet) if you are interested. Idon't have the shifter anymore.

We're in the process of doing this to my Duster right now. I'll get pics when it's finished.

I've seen pics of this done on abodys.

You could go over to forabodiesonly dot com, and do a search.
I was thinking of doing this as well. I just installed the Hurst promatic2 in my car, but haven't found a nice console yet.
Or I've considered building my own console around the new shifter. Not sure which way I'll go yet.

Why not use a Autogrip?

Its a pistol grip handle for your automatic.

Check the link in my sig pic.
