Was going to adjust the valves on my 01 Cummins, cheapest I found locally was $125 for the valve cover gasket. I've done other valve covers similar to the Cummins and they weren't $125 for a lousy gasket...

Any better alternatives? After 10 years, is the gasket likely reusable?

Why not make your own from a roll of gasket making material. Thats what I did with some of my smaller gaskets that required an oil resistants material, like my dizzy.

Can you just use high temp silicone and forget the gasket?

125 or even 80 beans ....

It is time that CHINA gets hold of that stamping ...

That is a big gasket ... but not THAT BIG and complex.

Is it one of those reusable rubber gaskets? Some of them are very expensive, unlike the cork cheapies.

Many newer Cummins engines have the injector wire harness made into part of the valve cover gasket. Ron

Thanks, will give it a try...and for those that aren't familiar with that gasket, it's a lot like one on a nissan inline 6. It's a big molded gasket, but $125 worth? I don't think so...

I never used Permatex Gasket Maker in place of valve cover gasket. I applied RTV Blue with used valve cover gaskets. For $80-$125 gasket, I would try something. I have applied "Permatex Blue" in place of thermostat housing gasket, water pumps and timing covers.

You should be able to reuse it. If not.

If you can't re-use yours, you might be able to call 10sec440 and ask for his. After the pics he posted, I'd say he's pretty much done using his.
