I have my original distributor and wanting to restore the thing. It is really a mess in appearance. Can I bead blast it and the brass tag to bring it back or is that a bad Idea? Thanks

If you bead blast it without "COMPLETELY" dissembling it you can have problems. If it is a dual point Prestolite you will end up with glass beads in the breaker plate bearings .Also, there is a felt wick behind the oil filler, you will also have glass beads there. If you remove everything and rinse it with a good solvent and blow it dry you shouldn't have a problem. Also, the tag is aluminum not brass.

If you have a Chrysler distributor, same precautions.

Ok! Here is the the distributor. What does the tag number tell me? What is the best way to restore this? I think it is the original one to my 70 Super Bee but not sure. Thanks

Hi, Your distributor part is correct for 70 383-4 barrel with auto or manual trans. The 8 0 is for 8th week of 1970 or end of february beginning of March. Your car was likely built in March of 70 or later if this is the original.
