My valve body is cracked right next to the casting number, hairline with a small hole too! This would be an internal leak for sure.It may be repairable as it is on the top of the body away from the machined surface.

The early castings were prone to cracking in that area, don't bother trying to weld it, the heat is sure to warp it.

would that be repairable using hi-temp epoxy ?

Hay JK ...what caused that ? .. just a column/console shifter issue? I have never seen something like that. And I have done my fair-share of early TF's.

I'm getting ready to have a 65 trans built for my 57 wagon project, any build tips or converter choices before I get started? I am looking for a super dependable combo, mostly street driven but I'll flog it on occasion. Right now the trans and converter are all stock and untouched. Car combo is as follows:

413 Long Ram engine, bored to 426, short ram intakes, Hyd roller cam, 9:2:1 pump gas combo, 405HP/495TQ (dyno'd)
8.75 with 3.23 gears
14.00 wheels, not sure on tires yet
Weight 3,650 (light huh! )
Push button shifter

Temperature isn't the problem, pressure is. I wouldn't trust any epoxy at the pressures that casting sees. (possibly over 300 psi)

The cracking problem only appears in the pre-'67 casting that has the square corner, I suppose it's a design flaw.

The input shaft on the early 727 limits converter choices, if it were mine I'd find a '67 or later (prfeferrably '71-'73) HP unit and swap the guts into the '65 case.
