A friend of mine built a pump-gas 408 stroker for my Duster

pretty happy with the results

Basic Combo:

Mancini forged Eagle crank 360 internally balanced stroker kit
RHS/Indy iron X-heads - prepped by IMM engines, (basic $1395.00 package - see info at http://www.immengines.com/rhsheads.html )

compression 10:1

Hughes solid cam - sorry not 100% positive which one - I think it's HUG HTL4852AS (Intake .563/Exh .572 w 1.5 ratio, 248/252 duration)

old mopar iron rockers

Proform/Holley 750 carb - with 1" super sucker spacer

MP performance disti - locked at 37.5 degrees

Kevco 6qt pan, Holley strip dominator single plane intake

91 octane pump gas

best run - 503hp @5500, 520lbs @4700

That's about what my 408 did. But I have hydraulic cam (248/254) and 1.6 ratio arms, .600 lift. Compression is 10.2:1 ported Eddy heads. M1 intake, but no spacer, same carb. All in all, very similar builds except the actual heads. My heads flowed 284cfm. Do you know what yours flowed? I could have pushed my compression higher to get more out of my aluminum heads, but I didn't. My best hp was at 5800 and best tq was at 4700 - pretty much the same as yours... built for the street.

You probably spent less than me, so you should feel good!

Sounds like a nice little motor. What RPM does the motor like to idle at with that much cam?

Not sure about that, I had a 416 with an even hotter cam and it had to idle at 1100-1200

I suspect this one will be a bit lower - bolting it to a 4-speed

Sweet!

That's right in the range that I'd like to do for a fun street/strip motor for my 80 Cordoba LS.

Sweet.

I've got a 410 project on the engine stand right now. Wish the budget would accommodate those RHS heads, but I'll be running some J-heads for now. My expectations are a bit more modest, but I'm sure it will turn the tires better than the stock 72 340 ever could.

Awesome! Those numbers give me some real inspiration towards my roller 408 project.
