So I heard it was discussed earlier that you could fit a Small block 904 or 727 transmission onto a 5.7L or 6.1L Hemi with little modifications. Well, could you do the exact opposite? Put an automatic transmission from let's say a 2005 Charger onto a 360 engine? Or does it not work that way? I would guess also that some of the older engines wouldn't be able to handle the higher RPM's as well.

Has anyone put a complete drivetrain setup (5.7L or 6.1L engine to auto trans minus rear end) from a newer car into a muscle car with little modifications? Not like what I have heard about taking the bottom half off a newer Magnum and mating it to a 68 Charger body.

Thanks for the advice. Just trying to learn something new every day.

sensors and computer controls will prevent that from working easily.

The "newest" transmission seems to be the 518 RH, like 94 and back.
it is the 4 speed od equivalent to the 727/904 type transmission.

It can be controled with pressure switches.

No one currently makes a stand alone controler for mopar transmissions. Plenty seem to exist for chevy and ford applications.

I'm going to be running a 42RH (converted to 44RH) in my 74 Duster this year or next.

42 = V6 application, RWD, H = Hydraulic gov.

The "904 based" trans has a better first gear (2.74) plus it will be stout enough for my 360 after a few minor mods like drum upgrade and shift kit. Stall speed at cruise will be a non-issue since it has lockup and OD =)

Recently went to the Hotrod trade show in Indy. This company has controllers for all type of trans. The Mopar controller were more complicated but they said it could be done. Good luck.

$750? Crazy!

The 44RH or 518H overdrive can be controlled with a few pressure switches. 1 -> 3 is normal 904/727 valve body.

This makes me want to design a standalone controller for the RE transmissions even more 'back of the envelope' calculations show it would have to cost around $500 though...

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Better than $750. I am sure you will get more customers that way.

yeah, you have a wide open market.

TCI makes a 6 speed mopar automatic. The controler for that runs about 1500. The kit with that trans runs 6500.
That is not a typo.
