I think there is a chart in the tech archives, but I have always thought the 68 on 8 3/4 was slightly wider

The 68-70 is wider. Some members have just forced the springs into place putting a B body rear in their a body , it's something I would do though.

Its a cheap and dirty move to spread the springs. This places undue stress on the shackles and bushings. A decent tech can save the spring pads when removing them and simply move them inboard the 1/2" each side.

Yes they can be saved, I've done it, but sometimes it's easier to cut the old ones off & install new ones.. The MP spring perch kit is only $12 from Summit..

I was on another forum and there was a guy that did just that and saw nothing wrong with it. He even posted a pick, and even though it's only a half inch on either side you could see the strain it was putting on the spring, not good.

I can't speak for him, but I think John meant it's something he wouldn't do.

You will also need to run a bigger backspace on the wheels too.

I would definitely not do it , there are some on this site that have done it and see no problem with it . I'm not sure why I mentioned it , but I know someone will eventually jump in saying ... come on in the waters fine .

I knew that it was a typo John, I know you're intelligent enough to know whats right.
The Mancini spring plates may work, but the 2 sets I bought from Summit had pilot holes too large for me. Thats why I save the stock pads. I've modified 4 axles in the last 3 years this way.

The plates WERE the MP units. The holes were larger. My wild guess is that the holes were about 5/8" and the stockers were about 7/16".

Mopar Stockers are 1/2" GM stockers are 19/32''.... 1/32'' smaller than 5/8'' so I'm sure thats what they sold you... Thanks MP... Nothing new...

Wait, I am confused. According to this all A-body 8 3/4 are the same length from 66-72.

They are... 52 5/8" and 57 1/8 total

I've spread the springs before, not my favorite thing to do. I prefer to move the perches.

MP Spring perches are actually OEM Dakota pieces.

The 5/8" pilot hole in the perch is a non-issue because the housing is also located off the 1/2" hole in the shock plate.

If you are worried about the perch pilot hole, a lock washer under the head of the spring center bolt works as a bushing.

Hmmmmm. I never considered the shock plate as a locater.

Any decent 4x4 shop should have leaf spring bolts with a larger diameter head that will fill up the gap on the MP spring perches.

I have used a pipe nipple welded in the hole, ground off flush on both sides and drilled accordingly.
