need a kit for a 440 in a 66 newport. dont want a pertonix.

i see that the MP kits are know in the $225-250 range. i also see the Prform kits in the $150 range.

any reason not to use proform?

No exp w it but for cheap and just as good, get a 440 elec dist from a JY and a $15 black 4 pin Mopar ECU from a parts house and take apart the dist & solvent wash/dry/lube & might ch the vac adv can & for sure toss the heavy spring w the long loop on one end. Lastly would b your choice of coil and the right ohm ballast to go along w it. Many options there. You'll save money & if you tweek each dist subsystem in order you'll b happy w the outcome.

you should be able to buy one rebuilt from the parts store , but the NEW MP units have an adjustable mech advance which makes setting them up much easier ?

Why don't you want a Pertronix ? The electronics is just as reliable , or unreliable , as an MP box .

Considering you don't go anywhere .. ... The I must have been pretty old and before they moved manufacturing OVER THERE , so I'm surprised it failed so soon , the II ???.

I put a procomp ready to run distributor on my 440. Costed me 50 something bucks on ebay. 2 wires to the coil and I was good to go.

thanks Dakota; & Daytona, a ready to run procomp for ~$50, the price doesn't sound bad. I gotta do one Pertronix as Scratchn has convinced me that they are a killer setup, gonna be interesting to see how it compares to the HEI/Accell super coil I used w NO ballast (didn't know you were supposed to use one)
