Where can I find a 8 1/4 sure grip notched cross shaft for installing 4.10 gears?

is this shaft factory or aftermarket? i bought and ran a used 4.10/8 1/4 but replaced it as it was very noisy and thought it possibly was a cobbled up set up not intended to use 4.10's.

It is actually the large pin that the axles touch when installed. For 4.10 and above(IIRC)the pin has to have a notch to allow the installation of the axles. You rotate the pin and install one axle then rotate the pin again to install the other due the the thickness of the ring gear.

You can actually just grind the inside tooth edge of several ring gear teeth to get the clearance for a regular pin. The pinion gear never makes contact with the ring gear on the edge. I did it in my old 340-4spd Duster with 4.10's in the 8.25 rearend and no ill effects or noise.

I'm not sure MP still makes the special pin for 4.10 and up gears but it used to be in their catalog. A regular pin can also be machined for the notch.

1970 FE5 Duster 360/904/3.91's SOLD 1973 TB3 SpaceDuster 340/4spd/4.10's SOLD Moparless for now but when the opportunity is right I'll have another one.

I would think the pin would still be available since they still sell the gears but I can`t seem to find one.
