Has anyone ever put an aftermarkert tach in the center hole of an A body ralley dash, without cutting it up? I know I could make the smaller 2 5/8" ones work in the plastic filler cup, but if anyone has done it before it would save ma a little work figuring it out. Is there one that is on the cheaper end that can be made to work, and can the pedistal mount types be removed from their cases, or at least have the front bezel removed? Thanks guys.

No A bodies but I did a B body. Yes the guts come out of the tach housing. Careful disassembly of dash allows acces to back-mount it. Use your choice of mount as it won't show. I did a vintags Sun Super Tach in a Super Bee that came out looking factory, Dash was easily restored to original upon sale of the car.

Charger Specialities sells new a-body in-dash tachometers that bolt right in.

Haven't done the aftermarket install, but I think the a body tach is reproduced now.

I had one in my dash when I bought the car. It looked pretty good. Real easy to do no hacking needed. Remove the blank and the outside clear lens. It fit in the hole perfect. I will check and see if i have any pictures. I still have the tach but not sure if I have any pictures from the inside. Here is a picture I will look for a better one.

Thanks everyone, I mostly wasn't sure that the tach would come out of the housing, I can make it mount in the plastic blank but it looks like the bezels are too fat to allow it to fit right, and I wanted to keep the factory look. I really didn't want to buy a factory one, or a repop of it, because of cost.
