I am getting ready to change my Duster to autoon the floor and get rid of column shift. I know there are several ways to do this. One is buy another whole column unit for auto on floor or 4 speed. Another is to buy the top collars and switch the top seconds. The last one is what I've seen posts on here before aobut is grinding off the selector arm and selector window on top of unit. And smooth out with JB weld and paint.Which I've read is a easy process.
Since I already have a complete column unit availible to me which out of the car.I can go either of the last 2 ways easily. This way I do not damage the one in my car in case I want or need to change it back.
So now which is the easier way to go change to top collars or grind of the unwanted sections?
If I grind off the sections, any pointers or suggestions? what do you do with the on back of selcector window and that piece? Any pictures of this process or advice will be appreciated.
thanks,

Why would you ever want to change back to column shift? I converted mine to floor shift but swapped out the column to a floor shift column. I heard of people saying they heard of people doing what you wanted to do, but I never saw any pictures of this being done. I am not sure I have actually even read a post from someone actually grinding the column down.

I have converted a column by grinding off the tabs, fillin the areas in, then re-paint. You would never know it by looking at it. Pretty easy to do too!!!

I swapped the collar pieces on mine. Pretty easy w/the column out. I did mine in my living room watching Predator.
