I was told there were some Clallengers made without the woodgrain inserts on the door panels. I don't believe it, but could I be wrong???

The early 70's had the woodgrain as an option.

Mid to late 70 it became standard.

Are the inserts standard on early SE models?

It came on any car that had leather or cloth seats until sometime in January, 1970 when they made it standard on all cars.
