I've run both and both work fine. If you are starting from scratch the MSD provides you with more options down the road. I swapped a working Orange box MP unit over to MSD in my old Coronet and didn't notice any gain in performace or drivability. Knock on wood I have not had the failures some have seen w/ the MP orange boxes.

Same deal on my sons mid 11 Dart. He switched from the MP orange box to an MSD unit and it ran no faster and also started and drove the same. Not that MSD is not about the best there is I am just stating the MP unit we have works fine as it is on my 63 right now.

If you wnt to test your MP system there is a real easy test. Just unplug the dist 2 wire plug. Then turn the key on and take the male side of the wire harness end and tap it to a good ground while holding the coil wire a 1/4" from ground. If it sparks then everything is good and the problem is in the dist pick-up unit. If no spark you will need to test the rest of the ign system. Ron

Thanks Ron,
I had some good luck today. I got the MP unit to work. I had a few connections that looked iffy. I cleaned the terminals in the bulkhead, replaced a couple of wire terminals elsewhere and made sure that the ECM was properly grounded. It starts easily now. Lets see tomorrow!
