A friend has a Jeep Patriot with the CVT trans (sealed). Mileage is 85K, owner's manual says change at 65K (true?). Dealer wants $500 for the job. Sounds pricey, but I don't know much about the CVT trans.

What advice would you give?

Choice is yours weather you want to follow the manual.

The CVT trans fluids are very expensive. Is there a replacable filter and is that being offered in the service. Should be about 1 hour job just for fluid exchange. Seems like $400 for fluid and maybe filter. Probably 10 quart exchange so that's $40/qt. Crazy as it sounds, that could be possible.

Nissan GT-R trans fluid is about $90/qt DEALER cost!!

My guess it would be a screw on filter if there was one.

Thanks for both replies... Sounds like the quoted cost is on-par.

(Although I'd definitely be doing it myself if I owned one!)
