I need a 2008-tech RV/towing cam made ... either a standard hyd or hyd roller. OR maybe there is a company that already makes a decent "shelf" item. I thought I remember seeing a list from a dealer or WD in Canada that had a very impressive listing - but I can not seem to find it now.

Anyone have a list of the most "friendly" companies? ..... someone that will not just throw a Chebbie grind at you.

And cost is a concern also ... but quality is the main concern.

check with COMP

also ENGLE is known for making MOPAR lobe cams ...

but what do you call COST friendly ? you won't get a CUSTOM grind for what summit charges for their cam and lifter package

you really don't need a "fast rate .904 lifter" profile for rv/towing. the dreaded chebbie lobe will work fine and may last a lot longer.

Yeah, you really don't need it but it could help the engine to run strong with better torque and economy, so why not?

First you have to calculate the rpm at which you are most likely to spend most of your time. The torque peak needs to be close to that rpm. This will probably mean you will end up with an intake lobe of less than 210 degrees.

Then you need to know your real compression ratio, or as close as you can guess.

Next figure out what your intake and exhaust tracts will look like. Manifolds or headers?

Then call someone like Hughes or some of the board members who specialize in ordering custom grinds. I bet your cam will be close to an off-the-shelf cam with possibly a tweak in the LSA or change of an exhaust lobe. Contrary to popular belief, having a customized cam ground isn't all that expensive. And most of the major grinders will do it quickly. Comp advertises that they do. Don't forget Crower either.

R.

nevermind the fact that if the lifter geometry isn't pretty much PERFECT you're looking at potential problems with the lifters eating the cam lobes , been there , bought the shirt .

THX Guys ..... I am not as knowledgeable in cams as I should be ....

I called Comp Cams awhile back and he suggested a roller setup.....for $ 1,300.00 ! He was talking about a fast-rate, short-duration and high-lift.

Now if this HAS to be done ...I will do it .. because the return-on-investment on fuel econ can be very quickly done. PLUS ...I don't want to wind up on the side-of-the-road with a broken or wiped-out cam.
