If you feel need to match the exact factory shade using a modern urethane paint (cars originally had acrylic enamel) then the best bet is to take a paint sample from an area of the car that didn't get exposed to the elements and have the paint store tint the paint to match.
I thought Sherwin-Williams was the supplier back in 70 (??? 
I would try to look at all of them to judge for yourself. FC7 is like FM3 (panther pink/moulin rouge) LOTSA variation out there. I would pick the one that looks right to you.

I bought a 70 Chally that was factory plum crazy. it was repainted in sherwin williams and the color was too light and silvery for me. I used PPG and it was much darker and richer color. It seemed very correct to my eye.. Back in the day, the factory FC7 color was burned, baked,peeling in three or 4 years ! One of the worst colors to keep original.. , the UV really attacked it...

I agree, I have seen several Plum Crazy cars that appeared to be too light or too much metal flake. The last three cars I have had done were all PPG and the color looks very close to the original 1970 painted spare tire I have. Since the tire has been out of the sun most of its life, I consider it to be the measurement standard for the purple cars I have had.

with him...but also wonder why you're worried about it. You could park 10 of that color car next to each other and wouldn't know the difference between paints. Put what YOU like on the car, not someones idea of the perfect match or whatever. Nobody's gonna care what shade or hue the color is as long as it looks good!
