To anybody that can help figure out the problem with my driver.

I'm experiencing delayed/slow engagement in forward gears when the trans is shifted from P,R or N to any forward drive position.

After traveling a very short distance (5-10') in the forward gears it fully engages and works fine unless the trans is shifted out of the forward gear then it starts all over again.

Other than this the trans will shift excellent and operates as it should.

I must add I have no history on the trans but know it does have a shift kit of some sort I installed fresh fluid and filter, band adjustment has checked out A-OK.

Sorry so long, thanks for your help!
Greg

I am no expert, but just had a thought (so don't flame me! LOL!) But...after you changed the fluid and filter, did you re-check the fluid level? Sounds like it is acting low to me.

, did this just occur or is it new since the fluid/filter change ?

I talked to Greg on the phone earlier about this and the jist of what I got that it was doing it prior to the fluid/filter change.

The fluid/filter change and checking the bands were in an effort to fix the problem.

It sounds like you have an issue with the accumulator. All it does is provide a cushion when you shift into drive. Maybe it's taking too long to overcome.

Rear clutch problem???

Sounds like it, leakage at the seals or sealing rings.

It takes considerably more pressure to apply a clutch than it does to keep it applied.

So I assume the issue lies within the trans and not the valve body.
And the only fix is to tear it down and rebuild it.

Thanks for all the responses

It's either the fluid level , VB or the rear clutch , 2 you can check without dropping the trans the other you can't , if you have access to another VB it's worth a shot to swap it out .

I can loan him a VB so that's no biggie if he dosn't have one.

If it was in the rear clutch, would it show up doing an air check?

If so at least that we car do with out dropping the trans.

It would be a shame to drop the trans just to replace some rubber seal rings

May try some Trans-Medic

Pay me now or pay me later ... Trans Medic is a bandaid used by used car sales hacks , all it has something in it to swell the seals , eventually they will fail , and it will be a lot more than the original one ...

Of course the usual suspects will chime in that they have had trans medic in their auto trans since the beginning of time with well over 5,000,000 miles ...

Thanks John!!
I was really just kidding about the Trans-Medic
Do it and do it right the first time and you'll never be sorry
Just not looking forward to yanking the thing back out
But I have a couple cores to choose from for rebuild and just make the swap in one day

If it's a seal getting hard, changing the fluid will help it and will show signs of repair.( key word is IF )

I've done more than a few like this with the best one still going strong after 30K miles after the service was done
