I have a fixed 6 blade fan, which to me seems like it would take a great deal of power away from the mighty 440. Did they make a thermostatic fan clutch asembly back then? Would it make sense to convert to a less power hungry fan assembly? thanks

I took a thermo drive fan out of a 4 speed convt GTX I Parted out. So I think the 4 speed cars may have come with them in 67, the autos didn't though.

thanks for the info, I think I am going to install one on my gtx as it is a clone and I am sure the the fixed fan robs a ton of power and fuel.

I parted 3 66 automatic cars and one 67 automatic ( all small blocks) and all had a clutch fan..

Clutch fans have been around forever. I have a `64 date coded one on my Galaxie and the `66 440 came with one originally.

Interesting.

I have both a 1965 and 1966 Dodge Dealer Data Books.

The 65 shows for B bodies with 361 and 383 engines with A/C 7 blade 18" with viscous drive fan. That is the only application for the clutch fan.

In the 66 book the only place a clutch fan is mentioned at all is as an option for Polara Police package.

Govier's parts books seem to concur as it does not show a fan with a "fan unit" (which I assume is the clutch drive) until 1968-69 H.D. cooling option.

Does anyone have parts books for 65-67 that can be checked for what they say?

For the Coronets with the 440, my '67 FSM under Group 7 shows a thermal drive for A/C (manual and auto), A/C and CAP (manual and auto), and Trailer Tow with A/C (auto). Scanning through the other engines, it looks like A/C is the determining factor.
