i was wondering if my 60fts would improve with a shorter tire height,88 dakota 3340# 418cid, 9.7 compression, pump gas small block stroker, about 470 hp,driven to the track, 727 reverse pattern lba tranny.ptc 10" converter, flashes 4200, 8 3/4 3.91 posi, stock front /rear shcks with cal/trac bars, m/t drag radial 295/65-15.1st time at track with new motor it ran 7.31@94.5 with a 1.64 60ft.im thinking about going to a m/t drag radial 275/60-15 or a 325-50-15 which are 28"tall instead of 30 like the current 295-65-15?i was thinking the tall tire was hurting my off the line gearing?

Yes, shorter tire will definitely help your 60 foot.I tried to go as small up front as possible without the car looking ridiculous.

Granted those are tall tires for your gear but better
shocks would also help you

the shorter tire also reduces contact patch and may cause traction issues if the car is not set up well. so it could actually slow you down if you can't hook.

yes thats what i figured adjustable front/rear shocks would help weight transfer also.

Also think of it this way... its cheaper to change
a gear than it is to buy a set of tires.... tires
about $450 and a gear and set up is $320 or less

You can change the drive ratio either way, which should help. Leaving a taller tire on it and changing the gear would give a bigger footprint and would be the preferred method. As mentioned, you can do it with shorter tires, but it may take some additional time in chassis tuning.

Good Luck

I run 4.56's with a 30" tall tire. Street driven most of the time, 1.60 60' times with a 3900# car. At 60 MPH I'm taching 3100 rpm.

4 speed street legal. Best time 10.99 @ 124 mph on 93 octane pump gas @ 3926# total weight

I have a 28" tall tire and have a 1.35-1.36 60 ft

I would suggest look at shocks and other chassis adjustments

I run 4.30's with a 30" tall tire myself in my 63 with a mild 440. It goes 3700 lbs with me in it and my best 60 is a 1.57 with my average in the low 1.60's on tracks with not so great hook. It works good for my street driving as with my 9.5 Dynamic converter it tachs about 3100 at 60 mph. I drive it on the highway all the time as I drive it the 45 miles to the track also. More gear might help your 60 but I would think suspension help should work also as you are much lighter then my 63 and should 60 ft as good or better then I do. My 63 is about 500 flywheel hp and has a best 1/8 of 7.28 @ 93.74 mph and a best 1/4 of 11.49 @ 116. And my converter flashes about 4200 and works real nice. Good luck , Ron

I think your combo would be helped with a shorter tire BECAUSE the combo should have a taller gear in it.

BUT ... if the car is geared correctly .... I don't see how a shorter tire would help 60 foot times. Now reaction times ... that is another story.
