However, ran into a slight snag with the new oil pump and lines hitting the K frame.

I cut as much off as I dared trying to gain clearance for the side inlet

But while it goes in there is no room for the fitting or for the line to reach the the pan.

It looks like I might be able to access the rear port if I was to get rid of the stock mounts and do a little cutting.

The rear port seems to line up where the red circle is

My thoughts were if I cut the mount pads off the k frame where the red lines are

And then weld in a piece of steel to reinforce the gear box mount where I have these arrows

If I do all that it looks like I'll gain the room I need to run this system but then I'll be forced to run a motor plate.

Does anyone see a problem with this or maybe see another possible solution that I haven't thought of yet?

the steering box needs a pretty good brace,i don't know if you are going to get enough bracing in there with the oil line.i would be looking into a street L pipe fitting, then loop line around.

I had to do the same to fit the milidon oilpump with duel oil lines

now its a single oil line

now that the moter is out reinforce the steering bracket and box it up

my manual streering box was moving the bracet over when the car was on the ground

theres a lot of strease (sp) there

Had the same issue on a 68 charger , ended up fitting a sandwhich plate between block & oil pump , no drain back issues to worry about. , spun this motor to 7500 (megablock).

We used the side port on mine and had to trim the k-frame a bit but it clears fine. Routed the lines over top the mount and steering box.

You will need a 90* elbow off the back of the pump to make this work.

i looped my oil line around the front of the k frame and down to the pan but you vould drill/cut a hole to make the line shorter.you may be able to go streight down with the line thru the k also but with both you must get the line tight on the pump before installing the engine as you will not get the pump out or tighten the line with any ease.i deal with it only taking the engine out every few yrs.i hope it will be that long for you. here is how my line is at pan level.

Earlier K frames must have more room there

I thought about a 90* fitting but can't see it fitting in there.

Do you have a pic of it in the car?

DO they make a 90* O ring fitting or did you piece something together?

Bill, I have the same k-frame as you.

It will fit but you have to grind some scallops out of that bracing. I'm even running power steering on mine....it's tight but it does fit.

What fitting did you use in the pump cover?

Dwayne put the oiling system together so i'm not sure exactly what he used on the back of the pump ?

I don't have any pics of it in the car unfortunately. It took several trial fits to get it just right. I'm using factory rubber biscuit mounts that have been re-inforced so i don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Bill, it's time for one of Andy's 3/8" motor plates

A plate makes life much easier and less stress on the block IMO

I run the dual line system if you need some pics I'll take some even though it's an A Body and cold out

Would this be the right one?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EAR-949012ERL/

Is the dimensions they list for "fitting size 2" the same as a -12?

no gaskets if you use a motor plate

ultra grey silicon only

vibration will kill the gaskets and will leak

12an is the correct size for the braided line. Not sure what size the other fitting needs to be. Maybe call Milodon and see what they say ?

Dwayne would know for sure

I've posted these before, Bill but here's how I got around this problem. The steel line is two 90 degree Aeroquip parts that I cut and rewelded into the "U" bend.

I had the same problem and found this fitting on e-bay. Earls #849012 90deg. 12AN o-ring to 12AN swivel -seal to hose end $24.95 { at buy it now price } E-BAY # 150274214939 The 12 AN o-ring end screws into the pump , the other end , the hose is put on the fitting so it eliminates the extra fitting. Both ends swivel.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Do you think some one at Summit is dyslexic ? got the Earl's e-bay price of $24.95 and put down $42.95

The E bag listing has the same 42.95

That's why I posted it so you could verify if it was the same one you used or I looked it up wrong

Yes, that is just the OD for -12 male threads. Both share the same 3/4-16 thread. SAE O-ring boss and JIC (AN) have the same thread pitch.

You can go the industrial fitting route and spend less than $5.00
6801-12-12-FG or 12-C5OX

I wonder if you could just cut a hole where your red circle was in the picture, then put whatever diameter pipe to run the oil line through the area and weld around it all, I don't know if that would be more of a hassle or if I even explained it enough to understand. Just trying to offer a suggestion.

If you'll study the pic above the one with the circle where I have the motor sitting on the mounts I think you'll see that my "circle" isn't quite to scale and that most of the fitting/line routing would be where the motor mount now resides.

I put one of Any F's motor plates in my ride and it cured all my clearance issues. I then took a torch to all the extra mount supports and had all the room in the world for the external oil pump & lines.
Also helps strengthen the frame and with the And f plate you dont have to worry about the engine shift foreward or back its 3/8'' thick and solid.
Also inspires you to lighten your kframe.
I'm sure road hazzard can help with the extra w/p gaskets

this may sound stupid but one of the reasons I went with the world block is cause the front oiling option in the block to eliminate this issues! I have no motor plate either! here is how my mount is if it helps you in any way!(a body) someday I may switch to a motorplate, who knows!

Limiters are easy to make though. Took maybe a day for mine and we had to take it to a friend to get it welded because I don't have a tig and we made it in CM.

Is it in a stock K frame using factory mounts and steering?

do you have a 60 degree fitting you can try in that area? i had the same problem and with a very small bit of clearencing was able to make a 60 degree swivel fit with no problem. my line fit through the opening between the k-member and the gear box mount.

You should... a vertical plate doesnt do much for
holding a fore and aft load(it still bows and if it
moves enought you push the drive shaft into the trans...
and you dont need that

Raff, that's what I thought.

No, I don't have any extra fittings to try out.

At this point I'm leaning towards one of the types that I linked previously.

I run an old school internal 1/2 NPT oil pickup. Those fancy, expensive, external systems seem nice, but don't exactly bolt into many applications.

Bill, I think I would go with a plate. Wasn't sure if I wanted to do one on my car or not. Now I don't think I would want it any other way. You can cut off the stock mounts for clearance and are not so limited how you have to run the lines. It is also much easier to install the motor by yourself. Just my opinion, but I really don't see a reason not to. Either way, good luck this year. Hope you can finally get to have some fun!

Randy

Well, it looks like my decision on what to do just got a lot easier.

I gotta call this evening from Gorski telling me he had a motor plate I could use if I needed it.

I owe you big time Rick

And fair warning.............

Expect more dumb questions that have probably been asked 1000 times once I get the plate and start working on getting it in

Bill, dont fret little buddy.... I have the milodon dual line kit in my car with 100% stock front suspension.

I do run a motor plate, but I use the stock passenger side motor mount as a limiter...

That oughta work just fine. I ran 1 limiter on my car with 1/4" plates front and rear until I put in the 572. Then I added one on the other side just to be sure the motor/trans weren't twisting.

I had the 1 limiter deal on the car for around 15 years with no drivetrain problems. Well, come to think of it, I did crack 1 Powerglide bellhousing after maybe 1500 passes. With the new motor and 2 limiters I broke 3 bellhousings this year.

If you do what Josh recommends I bet you'll be in hog heaven.

Here I thought one of the big advantages of the plate was getting rid of the stock motor mounts and gaining more room.

Dude, this is racing. If it was easy, well you probably know the rest!

If you really want more room just stub off everything at the firewall and weld in some pipe.

Seriously though, Josh's just tryin' to make your life easier. At least you'll have room for the pump and lines.

Bill, dont fret little buddy.... I have the milodon dual line kit in my car with 100% stock front suspension.

I do run a motor plate, but I use the stock passenger side motor mount as a limiter...

sweet idea man!
