sport 440 - "All of these Old school cams are great. Todays modern cams have nothing on them except a little extra lift."

Right on. For a 2.76 geared performer intaked V8, the Edelbrock performer cam still has yet to be beat in overall power curve. ALL the best lobes were worked out by the egg heads who worked with the gear heads in the early 60's. Fast ramp new cam BS. People just do not want a copy of something somebody else did. If you are smart you will follow. Then expand on their knowledge. The direct connection book combo's never lied.

The MP2783 .429/.444" mopar 318-340-360 factory performance cam with walkers, will always sound like a drive in lot. It has a small stampeed that adds some pop to your presence. Not HOT just warm.

If you have the cam I'd run it. If you are in the market for a cam there are better out there.

You on commission Coronet?

You run whatever you want to run & don't let anyone tell you any different. .......................although i've gotta say the equivalant ultradyne would whip the 509s ass.

I ran 11.80s in my 4 speed Challenger with that cam in a VERY mild 440 with a bone stock bottom end and the car was never tweeked at the track so it had more in it.

Engine was a 1966 440 with 40k original miles.
Stock 516 heads were pulled and larger exhaust valves installed, quick home done smothing of the runners.
Bottom end inspected and found to be in excellent condition so only a new oil pump, timing chain, .509 cam, lifters and correct valve springs installed.
Old school Torker II single plane intake with Holley 750DP carb. electric fuel pump, stock electronic distrbutor with lighter springs and vacuum advance locked out with MP chrome box.
Hooker 1 7/8" headers with Flowmasters at rear axle.
MP standard HP clutch disc and pressure plate in front of a stock Hemi 4 speed.
4.10 rear end with ET Steet tires, SuperStock springs and a snubber.
All steel street driven car with full interior, less glass T/A hood.

I only took it to the track a few times and the wifegod told me I was getting air under the drivers' front tire off the line but I had an 8 3/4" rear end in the car which I eventually broke an axle in so I did fairly light launches and my 60 foot times were terrible, there was definitely more in that combo. Very happy with that cam.
I've sinced swapped to a MP .528 soild cam and sixpack setup and it slowed the car down but made it more street friendly and this engine is going to be retired to my 71 R/T Challenger..
I have another aluminum headed 440 ready to go in the car and this one has the Racer Brown ST-21 cam in it with 1.6 rockers..we will see.

You got a reason why you prefer the purple cam over all others? , just asking because you have other posts out there asking about other camshafts you've gotten hold of , just like to know you're reasoning appart from 'cause i like it' , seems you have'nt ran this cam before so......what about all the other cams you've talked about , have you ran any of them? , be nice to get some feedback on this to help other guys out , tis a two way street out there.....just sayin.

Thanks in advance.

Ok fair enough well i have had ( 3 ) 440 with the 292/509 cam in them never did i have any problems or was it a dead horse it ran strong and hard some better than the other.
1. first one stock 906 heads with a torker II good running but could go faster need more gear & stall plus better heads.!
2. second one had ported 906 heads ran very strong it had 4:10 gears and a 3000 stall ran super hard but i know there was more.
3. third one had eddy heads mild port work and intake was a eddy rpm this time port matched with better headers 3500 stall it ran very very hard super torque and lots of power & 4:10 gears.

** My current motor is way more powerfull than any of those it is a solid lift cam with indy heads mild port work and so on. ** I just am not a big fan of soild lift cams i know i am going to hear it now but like i have said here it comes.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S WHAT I LIKE
SO YOU HAVE IT ALL THIS POST WAS FOR IS TO SEE WHAT TYPE PERFORMANCE OTHER HAVE GOT WITH THERE MOTORS THAT HAVE THE 292/509 CAM IN THEM. I JUST THINK MY OTHER MOTORS WHERE MORE STREET FRIENDLY AND MORE USEABLE.!
