I got one for you guys.! ?? i have a general kinetics cam i have one for a big block with almost the same profile as a 292/509 cam.!

I think that G/K cam is a "redline" series with I think 300* at .510 lift? They had a lot of profiles in that range. I use to sell General Kinetic stuff a long, long time ago. But I don't remember. Most, if not all, where 'chevy' profiles though. But they ran good in the day.

I had a stock bottom 440 with basically stock 906 heads a 509 cam, street dominator intake, lucky if it was 9.5-1 comp (my screw up) 750 hp carb. In a 70 bee with a 4000 stall convertor and 430 gears. The car ran 12.17s all day. If the parts would have been better matched I think 11s would of ben there.

I know we have alot of modern cam profile out there with this & that and it make them have more power and so on. I just wonder what has happened to the old school racing tricks that have worked for a very long time some times i fell we have been overwhelemed with so many different cam designs and companys that just basic understanding will make it run hard and true that is way i am a die hard 292/509 mopar purple shaft cam guy with the right combo they run hard as hell and are very dependable on the street.!
** Now this is my way of thinking and its ok to want something different so i don't want anyone to take exception.!!

See that's what i am talkin about some old school car stuff. I really think at time we have forgotten those that made drag racing and have got all into these big teams and all there sponsor and so on its fun to go back to or early times and look at what they did.!
**
Ok i now some of you guys out there that have street cars had some really good engine combo's with the 292/509 cam and they where screamers and drove on a daily basis.!** Also if you are driving it now and have a picture put it on here how cool is that.!.**

A big reason many do not run the specicfic Mopar purple cams is that for awhile the quality was not there. Lobes wiping out during break in periods as well as non exixstent/rude and or non knowledgable tech service. I have had 2 Challengers 440s with the 509 cam. They both had 3000 stall converters and 4:10 gearing. Very powerfull. Being able to use/re use the stamped steel rocker arms ($$) has always been a mandate for me. For my future 360 build I have a new Engle mopar specific 230deg 514 lift cam under my bed.

Keep old mopars alive.

I do agree with you that is true quality was not good for a time but it's much better now.! the last ( 4 ) 292/509 i have used with my motor and friends motor have done very well also it also comes back to this country its seems there is no pride in making anything here anymore and that is very sad on the nations part.!
***
But like i said we all have our own choice at what Cam company we use and i say use what works for you as i will do the same i am and will always be a 292/509 mopar purple shaft cam user.!!

...Mostly street, I like to drive mine.. I took it to the track when I made changes to see how it'd do. Then basically left it alone for the next 2 yrs. Health was really bad during that time. The local chevy/ford boys were saying my heads were ported, "cause Chrysler's don't run that fast". I never thought high 7's was that fast. So I told them, I'll take the motor down & make it more stock 62 than it is right now & it'll be faster, (Max Weg heads, & Intake).
...When I took it apart, that's when I found the main's had been "walking" during those 300hp N20 shoots. Also that's how I found that the piston's were .100+ in the hole (~8.4:1cr), & that the 286 heads idea could use a little more compression. Then my health got a lot worse & wasn't able to get that back together.
...When I was able to do anything again, I had a low 6's, 2700lb,~700hp,pump gas street Idea that ran 5.99 on race gas.
...Sorry, not a clear pic, buddy took a pic & gave it to me back then.

i was always pleased with my .509 in my 3900lb. truck. best time was 11.69 @ 112mph on pump gas & through the mufflers on mickey thompson ET streets. bottom end was stock forged crank, LY rods, trw L2266 flat tops. IIRC, cam was installed straight up. motor had OOTB edelbrock heads, holley street dominator manifold, ancient holley 950 cfm 3 barrel, & CPPA/tti 2" a body headers. compression calculated out @ 9.5:1 with the 84cc heads.
truck had a 10" coan converter & turbo action manual VB.
8 3/4 w/4.10. & yes it was streetable.

I agree with the general consensus of this topic. The 484 & 509 MP cams can be made to run fast, reliabe & consistent. Maybe not FASTEST, but they're great proven bang for the buck.

Just my opinion, but some need to have the latest and greatest technology for whatever reason and that's ok.

Personally I've got about 4 long blocks, with all of them a 484 or 509 cam, waiting to go in a roller. Picked up the cams at swapmeets, some new, some slightly used.

The combo closest to dropping into my 69 Rr is......

.030 over 440
KB hypereutectics
.509 MP cam
516 bowl ported heads
2.08/1.74 valves
Holley SD intake
850 Holley DP
1&7/8" Hookers
3400 Coan converter
rev. man. valvebody
4.3 or 4.1 gear

Yea there we go sounds like a winner to me and let me ask you this what is the main use for this car.?? STREET OR STRIP OR BOTH we need to just look at what we really need to go fast and do it with a motor that is more than just a strip monster hell i can build one like that as we all can its way more fun to have a car that u can drive there run and drive home SWEET.!
