I just put a 4 speed O/D in my 1973 Roadrunner and I'm having problems getting the right clutch fork. I one I was using before is a short fork and when I put it in the O/D bellhousing, it doesn't quite reach the throw out bearing. So then I put one of my longer forks in and the end that clutch rod pushes on is now to long, but it fits the T/O bearing perfect.

What is the answer?

Because of the large diameter bearing retainer used on the O.D. 4, the shift fork pivot had to be moved out away from the transmission centerline. This makes the fork longer from the pivot to the end of fork which contacts the throwout bearing retainer. The fork was made longer to lower the force required to actuate the clutch.

You need to get a fork from an O.D. 4 transmission application. Sounds like you may have one and it's thrown the geometry off. You may need to modify the torque shaft.

there were no overdrive 4 spd B-bodies made so you need to modify the torqueshaft/z-bar/bellcrank to work with the long fork

I just had my machinist torch the long fork, which cleared the front bearing retainer, and shorten it to the same length as the fork that came out of the car to start with. It works perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
