Has anyone done the rear spring relocation on a '71-74 Charger or were you able to get wide rubber back there with out having to do it?

Thanks

Thanks - that's what I was hoping to hear. Did you use 4.5" or 5" back spacing?

here is my 74 satellite...stock rearend(has air shocks) the tires are 295 50 15,s on 15x10 rims and there is all kinds of room left on the backside the rims i have have 3,3/4 backspacing so there would be no problem tucking this wheel under if you like as i still got like 3 inches or so before hitting leaf spring(or anything for that matter) lol hope this helps

I had 13.5 X 29.5 hoosier quicktime pros on mine with inboard springs, half tubs, and 3.5 back spaced 10" Centerline wheel on my old Charger. In the old days, the biggest tire I could run was an L6015 with an 8" rim. The above Centerlines with an N5015 stuck out past the quarters by about an inch.

Just out of curiosity, why did you move the springs inboard and do the 1/2 tubs, and only run 3.5" of backspace?!?!

I've got a 4.5" backspace 8" rim and 275/60/15's on the rear of my 71 R/T, and there is STILL room in the stock wheelwells.

I think you can get away with 5" of back spacing on the 71/4 Chargers, and not have any clearance problems...but you'll be close.

My 71 has inboard leaf springs. It fits 13 x 31 slicks easily. If your car is a street car, I would not do it unless you have no good alternative. I believe it changes the handling charactoristics of the car. I also would not do it without narrowing the rearend. I don't like having too much of the axle housing sticking out past the springs.

I guess I should have mentioned that I narrowed the rear. I already had the rims so it was a question of making what I had fit properly. I suppose if the rear end was not narrowed, and you used a different offset wheel, it could work. You need to make sure you have enough clearance as the tires could rub when cornering
