Hi,
Well I was going to put the cowl seal on the 70 Challenger yesterday. I took it out of the package and thought this should be a 2 minute job. Not quite. How the heck do those clips get installed? Does anyone have some pictures? I need to know how they install on the seal and also how they install on the cowl on the car.
Thank you,
Joe

I'm sorry I intended to respond to you yesterday but forgot. I have a used seal that I can take pics of later. PM me if I forget again.

PS: The repop ones don't fit well.

Ok, here's a pic. Hope it helps, but it's not the best.

Ok thank you. So it looks like the little points go through the rubber (must need to bend them over to secure) and then the clip just pushes into the hole on the cowl. I would think the best way to do this is install the clips on the cowl first and them put the rubber on and use pliers to bend the tabs over.

What I would do is throw that one in the garbage and spend the extra money to get the better quailty reproduction available that come with the clips already installed You'll save yourself lots of trouble.
BUT
Since you most likely don't want to do that, here's what I did when faced with the same low quality crap years ago...

Lay the rubber on the cowl with the opening facing the engine.
Try a couple of pieces of tape maybe to hold it in place.
Then with a marker (I used an yellow China Marker) carefully mark the locations of each clip.

Then working carefully with the rubber off the car you can install the clips by pushing the pointed parts into the rubber and I used needle nose Vice-Grips to fold them over. This was a very pain-in-bum process that took for ever. Don't be surprised if the pointing parts bust off.

You will be ahead of the game if you buy the correct part, plus you will save yourself a lot of time and aggravation.

I agree with using the pre-installed clip version, but since you already have what you have...
give it a try...

Putting the clips on the cowl first works well...
for folding over the points, use the plastic handle end of a shorty screwdriver... at least this is the method I used in the past before the better repro's came out.

Probably not...
I moved last year to near LaCrosse, so it's not in my backyard anymore.

Must of the reproduction seals for the cowl are junk bet you can usally find a good used one from a Charger in the junkyard and clean it up.

Well, got all the clips installed and put the seal on. Still working on getting all the clip points pushed down so they hold the seal down. Got some of them down but a real pain getting to a few of them. Next time I will get the one with the clips already installed.
