I'm getting ready to put a new headliner in my '71 Dart. The Legendary web site says it is best to leave the job to trained professionals.
Is it really that tough?
Has anybody done their own? Do you have any tips for doing the job correctly?

Do it yourself! For the prices I was quoted, I caould screw up a couple of new headliners for the install price. My 1st attempt came out great.

Couple of tips:
Let the headliner sit out unfolded for a couple of days to allow the wrinkles to subside.
A hairdrier will help with wrinkles as you install
take your time and use lots of sping clips to help hold it in place.

I like to put in the bows first,
then try to center it front to back, side to side. I will use carpenter squeeze clamps on the pass side driprail lip across then to set the bows in place on both sides. you should then have an idea about where you should be. I only push on the material on the hooks after I know Im centered on one side, then pulling it tight to the other side to set.

Goggle "How to install a headliner" and you'll get lots of good info. Here is one: http://www.upholster.com/auto/headliners-installation.html

I bought one of Dante's ABS headliners. It was a breeze to put in. Got one with the color to match my interior. His are for regular A bodies and sunroof cars. either way they were a easy install.

Very nice instructions. I did mine after reading Restorick's instructions. He's on the board, but you can also google restorick. Very satisfied with how it turned out. Wear a respirator when taking out the old one, it can be very dusty.

Check out Resto Rick's home page. He has his tips to install a headliner as well. Giving it a try. Then if you give up, seek help.
