Looking to ditch the 3.55's and change the gears in my Barracuda to match the cam. Its a 360, RPM heads, 11.6:1, MP 292/509 cam, RPM intake, 800 DP, A-833, and 8 3/4. Im running a 27" tall tire. I was thinking 4.10's. Is this a decent enough gear for the cam? This is not at all an expressway cruiser and will see 50/50 track and street time. I just want to match the gears to the combo for once in my life. Any opinions? Im ready to order

4.10s would be great, in my opinion. You could even experiment with a 28" tire (I use BFG Drag radials 28"x8.8"). Have fun!

Yeah, was thinking 4.10's would be about perfect. I may be out of whack, but Im hoping for low-12's when its all said and done. I was originally hoping to dip into the 11's, but without a cam change, I dont think its going to happen. What do you all think?

If your going to use 4.10s, Id use 3.91s instead. But personally, I think your combo would love some 4.30s, then you can play with your tire size from there and I dont think youd have any problems hitting 11's.

I know our 70 duster is a lot lighter than your car(2600) but last year with a .030 over stock stroke 360 we went a 11.08. Pump gas engine with a 509 cam, 750 holley, victor intake, stock eldebrock heads, 727 trans, 488 gear, 1 5/8 header, app 4800 stall conv. that cam loves a high stall conv. We just finished installing a 520 solid racer brown cam, I ported the heads, and installed 1 7/8 headmen headers. We should have it out this wednesday so we will see what it goes now.

Danan,
Good to see you on here!

I just put 3.91's in mine and have basically the same setup except more cam. There'd be virtually no difference between 3.91's and 4.10's if you could find an original 3.91 setup. You will enjoy them. I drove mine the other day after putting them in and it hit the rev limiter instantly.

Damn, what to do! I cant decide between the 4.10's and the 4.30's. I know at 60mph, there would be about 140rpm between the two. Would the 4.30's really be that much more of an advantage over the 4.10's?

best thing to remember is the 509 cam loves a high stall conv and low gears but unless you have a great working car or some super wide tires you will probably fry your tires. Sometimes the 484 purple shaft is a better option.

Well, its a 4-speed car and will be run on a 275/60-15 drag radial, or a 28X9.00" slick

yes, but hardly any difference in performance between 3.91's and 4.10s I had 3.91's in both my dusters and they were great, but Im going to 3.73s in the "cruiser" and 4.30s in the "racer"

3.91's or 4.10's You'll pick-up at least .5 second over the 3.55's if not more.

My son and I both run the solid MP .557 cam and he uses 3.91's in his Dart where I use 4.30's in my 63. But I can fit a much taller tire under my 63 as I run a 29 x 11.5 Hoosier QTP and my son runs 26 x 9.5 QTP tires. I drive my 63 on the highway all the time turning 3000 rpm around 55 mph and about 3200 at 60 mph. My point is if you aren't using a tall enough tire I would not go with the 4.30's as the 4.10's or 3.91's will work good with the right size tire. And as was said the .509 likes alot of convertor. I have 4.10 with 26" tall tires behind my 340 4 speed. I put the cam in 4 degrees advanced and the motor puts out 328 HP at the wheels at 6100 rpm. If you are running taller tires I would definately consider going up to a 4.30
