I'm building a big inch dual plug Hemi for my street/strip '70 Barracuda & I wanted to make it look like an early '70s SS/DA Cuda with some of the period bits like Keystone Klassic wheels, paint job, decals etc

I don't want to cut the body at all, just SS springs on offset hangers with the biggest tires I can fit without tubs, but open to suggestions.

There are quite a few pics on the net of the outside of this type of car but very few of the engine bay & inside the cars, if anyone has any could they please post them.

Also has anyone got a set of SS/DA rules from the early '70s that they could post to give me some ideas. The car would only be raced in street/muscle car races in New Zealand so would not have to comply exactly to any class.

Any other info or pics would be great, Cheers

Mine wasn't SS/DA, but I loved the old paint that was on it when it raced back then...

One of the SS/DA cars I saw for sale about 4 years back looked just like a stock shacker hood Cuda with a real nice stance and racing wheels and a cage. Literally, there wasn't almost anything that let you know it was capable of the et it was except the cage.

Anyways, here's pics of mine back in the day.

My 71 hemi Challenger was an original SS/D car. Ran best 10.30's. Was a pretty "mild" build actually. Racer Brown solid. Unported heads. Modded Rat Roaster with competition series Carters. 12.5 pistons. Stock crank and rods. Unmodified hemi box with Super Shifter. 4.88 gears.

It's an original hemi car, so fortunately nothing was cut up. put back to stock now.

Wow, thats very impressive, a real Hemi car that was thrashed on the strip 40 years ago but survived to be a low milage stocker.

I had found a couple of pics of your car on the net but didn't know what it looks like now until you posted the pic above.

Was it ever tubbed?
What size tires did you run?

My car is only a factory 383 Barracuda so as long as I dont cut it up, twist it or bend it, it wont loose much value so I intend driving the car on runs, drags & just getting it out & having fun even at US$5.70 a gallon for gas in NZ.

Yep, I too would give my left nut for a factory Hemi car but I'd probably have to treat it a bit better & that would mean I'd miss out on some of the fun things I do now like -

Grasskanas

Streed Drags

The odd Smokey, or two!

Power Cruise, in the rain!

As you can see, I have a ball in my old 383 car so I cant wait to get the dual plug 604 Hemi in it with a solid roller cam, dual quads etc, I think it will be a bunch more fun yet!

If it were me, I'd get ahold of whoever owns the Ramchargers SS/DA car & copy it! I saw it at Auction at Barrett-Jackson a few years ago & I've never seen a cleaner, more put together car. There were a few old P/Ss at auction that day too & none of them could compare to that car..

Here's a link to an ad listing a 70 Cuda SS/DA car. The "SunKissed Cuda". A lot of good pics here. Mods I aploigize if this is a no-no.

I don't think there were ever any better looking drag cars. The stuff today isn't cool at all compared to these cars.
