Just goes to show you they are still out there in the barns. A friend of mine just found this yesterday. A 1964 Plymouth Aluminum light weight car. It is a 2 owner car.It was only a few miles from where it was bought new. This car is super clean. It has all the history from day one with old Polaroids. Dark Blue Metallic with a blue interior. It still has the original American Racing Bear Claw Magnesium Front wheels. It was always raced with a Hemi instead of a Max Wedge from day one. It has a 1964 Date coded Hemi with the K Heads. It has an original Hemi factory magnesium cross ram.It has the original factory Hemi Tri Y headers. It has all the right and original aluminum components. Even the right bumper abd brackets. The last year it was ran was 1971. It was bought by the second owner around 1980. He never ran it. The car was never tubbed. Engine was freshly built to stock 64 Factory Race Specs a few years ago but never fired. It has a 4:56 Posi 8 3/4.

Very cool.

BTW, what was the little car in front of it. Sunbeam Alpine or a TR-4? Just curious.

way I read it , it's an original lightweight max wedge car, but raced as a hemi car all it's life

only original Hemi cars were single headlights

btw. very cool car .
was it known or completely off the radar all this time?

Yes Bill, you are correct. This was one of the first Lightweights to be raced at Pomona for the Winternationals in 64' with the Max Wedge and the aluminum components. The Car was still registered to Chrysler via the MSO. It was shipped along with two other cars right to Pomona. It was stolen out of the parking lot @ Pomona the same night it was delivered. It was found a week later missing the Engine and trans, Grille and hood and trunk battery. Here is a shot of it in the LA PD police pound when it was found. This is classic. The pic has 2/64 written on the back. It was taken by the original owners when they were called from Chrysler.

These are the original owners, two brothers. When they brought it back Home they were given a complete 64 Super Stock engine and trans from Chrysler. Guess where it was shipped from. The King himself Richard Petty. It was ran for awhile with that combo in the NHRA West Division. it also was ran with a HilBorn Injection and a Clutchflite. It also had a Straight Axel in it.This was Dec of 69'

That's pretty awesome. What's the story of it in the barn? Just a retired race car? How did you find it?

Hi Ryan, It was a friend of a friend might be selling his car deal. Well going thru the paperwork which is a lot this car happens to be really cool. There were just two more owners than originally thought. It was celebrity owned in 1968. The first owner bought it for his son. He owned a big trucking co. Obviously money was no object.Joe Schermie Jr. the original bassist for Three Dog Night bought it in 1968 when they received their first record deal money. He owned and raced it with his brother in law. Well a bad divorce in 1971 forced him to sell it for a $1,000 dollars. The third owned for awhile but never ran it. The fourth owner who just sold it had it for years and never ran it either. He did put it all back to stock with the original parts.

I am speechless. This is one of the coolest Mopar finds in a while. I love this story. Love the car. I want to pull the trigger on some aluminum fenders, but I think I'd rather have a whole car.

Thanks Ryan and GTX. Here are some shots with just a good wash. Paint is really nice and looks original on the top part of the car. Fourth owner did the sides in White and was going to have it lettered up. The engine comp was just cleaned up with Simple Green. Going to go thru the carbs, do a few things and fire it up Weds. nite. Coming out real nice.
