I have a 1971 Satellite with a 360 in it. I just bought it last year, and rather than the fun driver that I thought it would be, its getting to be some work. It seems that I have blown out the cork Oil Pan Gasket (7 qt Morosso-Deep Pan) and I was looking for advice.
It looks like I need to drop the steering linkage to drop the pan, scrape off pounds of silicone, and swap the gasket.
It also looks like the header tubes just before the collector are going to be in the way.
**Are there any good reinforced rubber gaskets for this job?
I am looking for any tips on this one.

Any help on the process would be great.
Thanks all.
Kurt

the Magnum engines use a one piece gasket, I think I read somewhere they worked with the older pans.

Maybe someone who's actually done it will chime in.

On a side note.... McCord use to make a nice rubber one with grommets in the side pieces so you couldn't pinch the gasket.... I've had that on an engine for 15 years... no leaks.

the magnum gasket does not work on the ends, but will seal the sides.
It leaves a gap on the pan at the edges where the end gasket and side gasket meet for the two piece.
If you get that gasket, just cut it to remove the end gaskets, leave your old ones in place and slide these in. Then goop the snot out of the corners.

Thanks, Any tips on the linkage and header issue?
Was a Buick and Chevy guy, but with the suspension set up that I see, there seems to be some glitches.

I know when I had to get the 7qt pan out of my 73 440 charger, I had to drop the center link, and jack the engine up!

tons of fun..:D

Great, that is what I had worried about. Does anyone have any diagrams, or pics from a shop manual?

I don't know if I would bother taking it out.
If you buy the metal insert magnum one and cut out the front and back. then just pull out your sides and scrape out the goop, you should be able to reseal it in the car.

I will check out the Mopar perfomance website. For the other two posts, are you saying just drop the bolts and swing the pan down without removing the linkage?

All tips and any pics welcome.

Thanks all.

I swear SCE used to have a one piece gasket for a 360, but I just scanned the net and can't find it??

I know they had one bc I was going to buy it and a new pan late last year...

I've got a nasty leak off my milodon pan and am seriously wondering where the heck that gasket went...Might be something you could make use of as well

after doing mine in the car with headers and it still leaked

I pulled the engine and did it right and did all the gaskets, except the heads

3 rattle cans of paint and done no header leaks, oil leaks, very clean and purdy

its not what ya want to hear I know...but in the long run ya will learn mopar and wheen ya self off the ferd and chivy way of doing stuff

you will need to remove 1 header from the car

one header loose, might as well drop it

steering linkage should be droped all together from tie rod to tie rod and center as a 1 piece

ya gots to raise the engine up and thats needs undoing..watch the dist when jacking

do not jaack using the balencer and pullys.best lift the engine with a hoist IMO

see...just pull it,seal it,pimp it,install it

Ouch, thanks for the advice. I thought this one was going to be interesting. Looks like a weekend and a 12 pack for this one.

SCE still makes a one piece gasket, I know PAW carries it, Jegs, and Summit should have them too.
