I'm thinking of ordering some fiberglass parts for my dart. Not sure if I want to pony up the bucks for a bolt on or not. Experience? I'd presume that a hood could still be taken off by one person if it wasn't the bolt on. Is there a big weight difference between the 2? Is the bolt on much lighter then the stock on? Planning on getting an AAR one at the Nats. Thanks.

I have a bolt on pin on hood on my 66..The old hood and latches and hood springs were close to 60 pounds..The bolt on was less than 20 pounds...The race weight pin on hoods are the really light ones..With mine it bolts to the stock hinges and you pin it in the front. I like that I don't have to take it off every time I need to get to the engine though...

Taking the hood off to do little stuff like checking the oil gets old. Especially if the wind is blowing at all, and there's no good place to put the darn thing. Mine used to be pin on but I made it a bolt on, it's much easier for me to live with.

The bolt ons's have more structure on the under side. They will hold their shape better than a
lift off.
I used the stock hinges, but got ride of the springs. I just kept of prop-rod in the car.

With all the above, pin-on can allow more rear engine access but checking something at a gas station car be a real pain. Bolt-on for me.

I couldn't say that better myself. I just got my car painted so I would really like to switch from pin on to a bolt on. Before paint, I would lie it on the ground in between the fenders but not anymore. Plus the front chrome is already scratched up - take my advice, spend the extra $$ and get a bolt on!

Tomsecks - what kind of car do you have? I live in Ohio, going to the Nats, if you decide on a pin hood I'd offer you mine cheaper than AAR.

Bolt on it is. I actually called AAR today just before 5:00 and got it on order. Now I need to sell my mint steel hood to help pay for the new one
