Anyone done an 8 1/4 rear with small bolt axles?
Im guessing you would have to get custom small bolt axles

Reason being, 7 1/4 makes me worry as I add more power to the v8 on my 65 valiant

8 3/4 are hard to find and expensive/heavy

I already have 3 sets of small bolt wheels!

Thanks in advance!

Shouldn't be any big deal to drill them. A lot of people redrill going the other way - so what would be the big trick to this? If I wanted a small bolt pattern rather than spend big buck that that is what I would do.

The problem will be the register in the center of the axle. BBP has a lot bigger one than SBP. If you have steel wheels that will be an issue.

BS - After market and even a lot of later OEM wheels come nowhere near a register. The wheels center with the cone, shank/cone combination, or shank on the nut depending on the wheel with no problem and the type of nut they use.

Wheel to fender clearance may be an issue.
The LBP 7.25 and 8.25 are wider than the SBP 7.25 and 8.75. The difference is made up with wheel backspacing, the 4" pattern wheel has less. Compare a SBP 5.5x14 Rallye with a LBP 5.5x14 Rallye, you'll see the difference. So if ou drill the 8.25 rear to 4" and use 4.5" wheels, expect to have less clearance between your tire and wheelwell lips.
Keep the 4.5" pattern, sell the 4" wheels and buy 4.5". You'll have a larger selection of wheels to pick from if you do.
