I just installed a new MP (RB) distributor. I was expecting all the mechanical advance in by no more than 2500 but it more like 3000-3500. The springs are one light, one heavy (or at least heavier).
Are two lights likely to get me all in by 2000?

Anybody run only ONE spring?

RapidRobert,

The chart is a bit hard to see. Any chance of a better scan/picture? What issue did that article appear?

Thanks,

Mp must have change the advance curve because the ones that I have checked were fully advanced at around 1800-2000 rpm. That is a little too early for a street driven car.

If it's a new MP distributor it will have the Mallory advance mechanism in it. You can pick up a Mallory distributor tuning kit #29014 from Summit or Jegs that will come with an assortment of springs and spacers for setting the advance stops. The kit also has charts that show the advance curves with the different springs.

Don't know if the previously posted chart would apply to one of the Mallory made distributors.

the(3)different crane springs used in the article were in a kit thats no longer available. It had IIRC (1)orange spring (1)yellow spring & (1)plain colored light spring similar to the factory light spring.
