Are these removable with a breaker bar or do I need an impact wrench? I actually have a socket large enough to fit the bolts holding the K-member onto my car (67' Barracuda). But when I tried to take one off, I couldn't budge it. Thanks for any help.

Mine came loose with a breaker bar, but they were pretty stiff. Nothing wrong with using an impact gun if you have to.

they should come off with a breaker bar, just make sure you are turning it the right direction. I broke one off of a 69 dart when I was 16, and removing the broken piece was a pain.

make sure to use some penetrating oil.Seems like I remeber seeing holes in the area of the bolts or maybe drill some really small ones above the bolts to spray lube.

Go to home depot, get a 2-3' section of pipe to go over your breaker bar for leverage. Amazing how easy they turn.

Very important, soak em good with oil FIRST. Inside and out, there are holes nearby where you can squirt oil in there.

What they said. Kroil is great for that application.

I just put mine back in last weekend, the torque spec is 150ft/pounds. So add some time and rust = big breaker bar or pipe...

I drilled (4) small holes & oiled them daily for (3)days as I read somewhere that a guy did that(sometimes I get anal about these things!) they came out smooth as butter. I shudder to think of what would have been in store for me if one would have broken off. So you gotta ask yourself do you feel lucky PS they have only been(probably) untouched for 30 years or so.

My heavy duty 1/2' impact wouldnt budge some but they are no match for a breaker bar and 3 foot of "cheater" pipe.

The torque to undo the bolt should be the least of your worries. The nut spot welded inside the frame should be of concern.

That's what I was thinking.

What he said
Do the soaking thing - I also soaked mine for several days or more, they came out fine. Better safe than sorry

if you take out the rear bolt on your front bumber bracket. you will now have a open hole in the frame right over k-frame front bolts. oil can them with trans fluid and it will run down to other set. heat one at a time with hand held bottle torch, never impact, ive used my 3/4 inch rachet on over 50 rot boxes ive chopped up, to get the k-frame out never spun an insert yet.

Hey thanks for all the replies, guys. I hadn't considered the nut spot-welded inside the frame. I'll try soaking everything as much as I can, then see what happens. Thanks again.

Seeing that you are in SoCal, I doubt you will have an issue breaking the weld nut. I have spun a few in my day, but with NY rotters
